Project #1 Sketch

Project #1 Sketch

This is my extremely poor excuse for a sketch of my first project. I watched a bunch of videos on how to draw people, and after a lot of trial and error, I ended up with this. Enjoy

Project #1: Self Data Image

Project #1: Self Data Image

I was a bit worried going into my first project as I had absolutely no experience with Photoshop or any other photo editing programs and utilizing some of the basic skills I learned I thought the best way to create something that represented me was to tattoo all the the things that interest me on a photo of myself. My interests are eclectic, comprised of cinema entertainment, ideological leanings, sports teams, and lifestyle choices. There’s no real grouping of categories in the tattoos as they are simply placed where I believed looked and stood out best. The only tattoo that is meaningfully placed is the American flag over my heart. I’m not going to go into each tattoo’s meaning or why I put them on there because I believe the piece should speak for itself and the viewer can draw their own conclusions as to who I am. That was the point of the project, no?

Heres a list of the tattoos in case it is not 100% clear what some of them are, and represent…

Left Arm/Shoulder (from bottom): Liberty, Anonymous mask art, Bitcoin logo, Florida Gator, Newcastle United

Right Arm/Shoulder (from bottom): Freedom, UNM Lobo, Brian Griffin, Detroit Tigers “D”, No GMO, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Portlandia Bird.

Sternum (from top): We the People, Upside down back of the dollar bill, The Dude from The Big Lebowski, Heath Ledger’s Joker, Kid Cudi album art, Anarchy symbol, Legalize/Educate/Regulate/Medicate Marijuana, American Flag, Heisenberg (Breaking Bad), Simply Organic, Oakland Raiders, Gadsden Flag Snake, and Live Free or Die.

The Sandia Mountain

The Sandia Mountain

This is a photo I took recently of the Sandia Mountain located here in Albuquerque. This is an inspiration to me because I recently moved to Albuquerque all the way from Gainesville, Florida to join the IFDM program at UNM and pursue my dreams of being a film maker. I took a big risk going so far away from home as I could have essentially went to the University of Florida for free but opted for UNM because I saw it as a much better opportunity. I felt like I needed to be in an environment that actually had a film industry and Albuquerque certainly does more so than anywhere in Florida. The prospect of being in the area that shows such as Breaking Bad and movies such as the Avengers have come from, and joining a program that can teach me the skills to become a part of the industry to me was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I certainly have my doubts being so far away from home, but every time I see those mountains in the distance I remember why I’m here and it motivates me to work as hard as I can and be the best that I can be.

The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski

Hands down my favorite movie of all time, and written by my hands down favorite writers of all time. The Big Lebowski written by the Coen Brothers is a flick that does not even need a description. A person can never see this movie too many times in their life. I believe my watch count is over 20, and I’ll be disappointed if I die before I watch it 100 times. It is a perfectly written movie and the performance by Jeff Bridges as “The Dude” is second to none. The Big Lebowski is the Mecca of dark/dry comedies and the Coen Brothers i.m.o. are the best writers in the industry. Their other works Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou, No Country For Old Men, Miller’s Crossing, and Raising Arizona (just to name a few) are all high in my list of favorite movies. Typically they write/produce/direct all of their films so their talents are boundless. The Coen Brothers are one of my biggest inspirations into going into the film industry as I write with my older brother and we try to envision ourselves as one day becoming as genius as these two brothers.

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas

The movie Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas starring Johnny Depp is based on a book written by genius author Hunter S. Thomas. This is an inspirational photo to me in many ways. The original story by Hunter S. Thompson is one of the most creative and interesting stories I’ve ever read. Although I am not certain, I am pretty sure that Hunter S. Thompson actually did most of what he portrays because the story revolves around a writer who goes to Vegas to cover a story with his attorney which he actually did in real life. I cannot be sure about their drug use while in Vegas, but due to Thompson’s notorious reputation, one can only assume. The book is absolutely brilliant, and the movie adaptation along with Johnny Depp’s performance are equally brilliant. It’s safe to say that this is not only one of my favorite books, but movies as well, and it inspires me as an aspiring writer/director because as of today I could only dream of creating something a tenth as good. I watched the movie before I read the book, and I really appreciate movies that you have to watch 3-12 times to really get a grasp on what you’re watching. This is the type of movie that one day I’d love to put on a screen. I attained this photo on http://www.arts-wallpapers.com
